Operating Tables

Operating Tables

An operating table is a table on which a patient lies during a surgical procedure. Sometimes known as a surgical table or operation table, operating tables are typically used within an operating room or surgical suite of a hospital, ambulatory surgery center, or other healthcare facilities where surgeries are performed. Operating tables may be either stationary or mobile to move room to room. Operating tables are used in various types of procedures such as cardiothoracic, orthopaedic, bariatric, robotic, urologic, and more.

USES OF AN OPERATING TABLE

The uses of an operating table depend on its design and specifications. For example, some operating tables are designed to perform a wide range of procedures while others are designed specifically for orthopaedic procedures. A patient lies on the operating table during a surgical procedure. The purpose of a surgical table is to keep the patient in place while the surgical team operates and may move various parts of the body using surgical table accessories for easier access to the surgical site.

Countless procedures are performed on operating tables. These include cardiovascular, gynaecology, paediatric, orthopaedic, and paediatric surgeries. Because of the variety of procedures and types of surgical tables, weight and height restrictions are set to keep the patient safe during surgery.

Surgical Booms

Surgical Booms, also known as equipment booms or equipment management systems (EMS), are designed to constrain the electrical cords from various pieces of equipment in the OR that can lead to tripping hazards for staff. By removing the clutter from various cords, surgical booms increase the amount of working space in the operating room. Booms also provide housing for various pieces of equipment and allow that equipment to be positioned to best meet the patient and surgical team needs. Booms are suspended from the ceiling and move easily throughout the operating room. Booms come in various designs. The design chosen by the facility may depend on the space requirements of the OR.

Surgical Lights

What is important in a surgical light? Surgical lights are medical devices designed to effectively illuminate the patient’s body during surgical procedures, diagnostics, or treatments. These lights must follow a strict set of specifications to ensure efficient and effective illumination that leads to improved visibility and better patient outcomes. Surgical lights are arguably the most important tool in the operating room; if surgeons can’t see, they can’t effectively diagnose or treat the patient. More light does not correlate with improved visual acuity. Research has shown that quality of light — not quantity — matters most in the operating room (OR). Intensity Width Depth Shadows Colour Heat Safety Our long experience taught us to ideally balance these factors to deliver the perfect illumination for surgeons. Factors that contribute to high-quality surgical lighting include: Intensity, Width, Depth, Shadows, Colour, Heat Safety
